Cawthorne Park Woods Survey

In Spring 2013 the Industrial Heritage Support Programme funded an archaeological walk-over survey of areas of Cawthorne Park Woods, thought to be the site of a medieval iron-working complex. This survey was carried out in collaboration with the Woodland Outreach and Learning Foundation (WOLF) who are working with the landowner and other partners (including Heeley City Farm) to develop community projects and activities in and around the woodland.

The survey was carried out by ArcHeritage and mapped a number of areas of the woodland which include bell pits, water management systems and former spoil heaps. The results of the survey will be written up as a report and will be available by Autumn 2013.  For more information please contact the Industrial Heritage Support Officer (click here).

Cawthorne Park Woods are private woodlands and are actively managed. There is no public access (apart from by prior arrangement with the landowner). For more informtion about future open days and community activities please contact WOLF (to visit their blogspot click here).
